PIDSEA

We developed several awareness-raising materials including short films, jingles and call-in radio programs on what constitutes Sexual Exploitation and Abuse(SEA). We simplified, produced and distributed 2,000 copies of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act in English, Pidgin and the Ijaw language of the community.

The nationwide floodingi n Nigeria has submerged over 106 communities forcing members of these communities to live in displacement camps with increased vulnerablilty to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) for women and girls, especially for women and girls with disabilities.

In response to this, GRID has implemented the PIDSEA project with Support from the UNHCR and ICVA PSEA fund. We worked with Women and girls with Disabilities who internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Patani community, Delta State, one of the communities in Nigeria anually affected by devasting loss of lives and properties, to raise awareness on Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and existing Community-Based Complaints Mechanisms (CBCMs).

We developed several disability inclusive awareness-raising materials including short films, jingles and call-in radio programs on what constitutes SEA. We simplified, produced and distributed 2,000 copies of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act in English, Pidgin and the Ijaw language of the community. The simplified VAPP Act was specifically developed to improve knowledge of IDPs on their rights to report cases of sexual exploitation and abuse, and seek redress as enshrined in the Act
