GRID Produces Pidgin Version of the Violence against Persons Prohibition Act

The Violence against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act enacted by the National Assembly of Nigeria in 2015 seeks to eliminate violence in private and public life, prohibit all forms of violence against persons, including persons with disabilities, and to provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment for offenders.

GRID in an effort to continue to popularize and, make the Act accessible and easy to understand by persons at the grassroots has produced a simplified version in Pidgin and local languages for Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) awareness and communication as part of our PIDSEA Project with support from the Interagency PSEA Outreach and Communication Fund. This simplified inclusive version was specifically developed to raise awareness of violence against women and girls in humanitarian settings (IDP Camps) who continue to be exposed to situations of sexual exploitation and abuse, ensuring they have improved knowledge on their rights as enshrined in the Acts, report cases of Sexual exploitation and abuse, and are able to seek redress for acts of violence against them and others.

GRID continues to work to ensure that women and girls, including those with disabilities, are free from all forms of violence and are able to live their lives fully protected and with dignity.
